Today we spoke with activist and public health advocate Dr. Monica Unseld who is based out of Louisville, KY.

In this conversation Monica discusses Black mental health, what it is like living as a Black woman in Kentucky today and what peace means for Black individuals living in a world of racialized violence and generational trauma resulting in PTSD, post traumatic slavery disorder. She shares some of her experiences with the mental health system and why it is important to talk about and understand black mental health needs. 

Monica E. Unseld, Ph.D, MPH. Monica received her doctorate in biology in 2008 from the University of Louisville and received her Master's in Public Health from Benedictine University in 2018. For over a decade, she has worked with frontline communities facing environmental racism and environmental injustices. She currently works for the Greater Louisville Project in Louisville, KY.
